Blurt Self Careathon Day 21

Talk

Talking to someone you trust, be it friends, family, work colleagues or a professional in the form of a doctor, mental health worker or a therapist helps enormously. They will have a different perspective of a situation and will offer help, advice and guidance that you may not have thought of.

I, like a lot of other people, used to think it was a sign of weakness to ask for help. But after having asked countless times now, I know it’s a sight of my strength and bravery.

I used to live next door to one of my very good friends, and on our days off I would go round to hers, she would make a pot of tea (or three) and we would just talk and put our world's to right. In the UK in the mid-'90s there was an advert for a telephone provider and the slogan was "It's good to talk." And it is. We always feel so much better having told someone our fears, worries, concerns, etc, and whatever else is on our minds.

While you are talking with someone, you will both bounce ideas off each other, suggesting solutions to a situation until one of you comes up with possible actions to take to get to your desired destination.

Never be afraid to talk and ask for help. You will feel so much better having done so and you are strong and brave for doing it.
