May, Myself and I; Doughnut
Another tricky prompt today. When I first thought of this one I thought of the desert and how I don't often eat doughnuts. If I get a cake type dessert I'm much more likely to get the chocolate cake as my first choice with carrot cake as my second choice.
Then I got to thinking about the doughnuts themselves and how some have a filling inside them and others have a hole and I realised that we as humans are similar. Sometimes we feel filled and other times we feel empty inside like something is missing or not quite right.
When I feel empty it tends to be a lower mood day, I'm anxious, I think no one likes me, no one loves me, I don't have many friends, all those sorts of thoughts ... Then other days I feel so filled with love and appreciation, I'm happy, calm and positive. Often I can feel both ways on the same day and even flip between the two as the day progresses.
Now it would be awesome if we felt full all day every day, but life isn't like that, its a roller coaster of ups and downs and often our lives go sideways and take an unexpected detour that we never saw coming. So as we all have bad days, the knowledge is to look at how we can fill our selves on those lower mood and bad days.
What brings a smile to your face? What makes you belly laugh? What makes you feel good about yourself? What would you advise a friend to do when they feel empty? This is a good place to start turning your mood and your day around if you're empty on a low and bad day.
For me it's making sure I have a shower; it's amazing how much better I feel after I've done this, drink plenty of water; I drink a lot of water anyway but it's important to remember to stay hydrated, listen to music, smile, pay attention to my breaths and make sure I take slow deep breaths, eat a few treat foods but still have plenty of healthy foods swell.
If I'm able to; get outside, move my body somehow even if it's just doing some tasks around the house, watch a favourite YouTuber, watch a feel-good-film, or two, talk with a friend about how I'm feeling, journal, write out a gratitude list, read a book, nap if I feel like I need one, plan things to look forward to ... You get the idea.
I know sometimes things are easier said than done but please remember that the suggestions above are from over ten years of personal work that means I've got such an extensive list of things to choose from. In the early days, it was simply to take a shower. You're very welcome to try any of the things I've listed above to see if they help you.
What things can you do to make you feel full instead of empty?
