Blurt Self Careathon Day 6
Support
There a couple of different types of support. The type of support we get from friends and family, and our work colleagues, that's the support we sometimes ask for and also given out by them as well as others without us needing to say anything. Then there's the support we ask for from professionals; doctor's mental health worker's, therapist's, counsellor's, and even psychiatrist's. Depending of course on each person's needs.
And there's also the support we show our self by looking after ourselves, by nurturing our needs and listening to our bodies and acting on them. By having an early night, by having a nap if we need one, by meditating, by deep breathing, snuggling on the sofa and having a DVD day, by eating a bit of what we want, by having a cup of tea (The British Cure All) and even the seemingly little things like having a shower, cleaning our teeth and eating meals are self-care and ways of supporting your self.
Other forms of self-support are starting a yoga practice or another form of exercise, journaling out our thoughts. Have a bubble bath or treat yourself to one or more bath bombs from Lush. Because let's be honest, who can go into Lush for just one thing?!
Sometimes it looks ugly and it's all we can do to get through the day, even that is supporting ourselves. As long as it's safe and legal.
Each day it gets easier and each day you are more aware of what you need that day, or in that minute. The list of self-care techniques is endless and ongoing. As you heal, your needs will change. They will ebb and flow. You will find that some tools you used in the early days of your recovery, you may very well end up dusting off and using a few years down the road. This is okay.
