Blurt Self Careathon Day 3

Boost

The ways I boost my mood differ depending on what it is I need at the time.

A few of the things I do are yoga practice, meditations, deep breathing, I write out my thoughts or ask questions in my journal to work out what’s going on in my life and head. I also use distraction techniques; watching TV or DVDs and I also text a friend or two who I know will help lift my mood.

Sometimes something as simple as sitting gazing out the window, with a cup of tea and doing some slow, deep breathing can boost my mood. Getting out in the fresh air for a walk, even to the shop for some milk can also reset my mood. It seems so simple, but it can be a hugs challenge to force yourself out of the house when you're in a head funk. Especially if you'd got dressed in your comfortable lounging-round-the-house clothing that morning.

As difficult as it can be, it really is worth the effort. Even just a walk around the block will make a huge difference and you will come back a better version of yourself.

Next time you're in a head funk, ask yourself what it is that you need. Try one of the above suggestions or come up with a few of your own. I would highly recommend avoiding self-medicating. That won't help you long term. And you'll most likely sink further into your funk.
