May, Myself and I; Weight

I'm not one to focus on the numbers of how much I weigh.  Instead, I pay attention to how I feel and how my clothes fit me.  I eat relatively healthy with the odd treat here and there.  I recently upgraded my Fitbit Blaze to a Garmin Vivomove and also downloaded the MyFitness app as well to work alongside the Garmin Connect one.

I'm using them to track how active I am, my sleep, as well as calories, burned and consumed.  I was feeling a little on the bigger side size-wise earlier this year so it's a way to make me aware again of what I'm eating, when and why.  The WHY is the main one.  I noticed I was doing a lot of boredom and comfort eating and I wasn't making the best choices food-wise.

I don't count my calories on my days off as I know I'm generally over on those days as that's what I learnt from having the Blaze for a couple of years.  On my workdays I'm mostly under on my calorie intake and on my days off I'm over as I still eat the same amount but I'm not moving as much. I don't beat myself up about this though as we all need to not be so hard on ourselves.  And a few treats here and there are all good, just make sure you're not having them too often.

I've changed my eating plan a few times over the last few years as I get bored with food.  I don't like the word diet so I call it an eating plan.  I roughly plan my evening meals for the week on a Sunday when I'm planning the upcoming week.  I've not had a chance to do that this week however as I was working this Sunday but I tend to have the same meals on certain days.  Friday is Pizza night which is just a small cheese and tomato pizza that I add toppings of chopped tomatoes, chopped pepper, a small mound of spinach and a small amount of added cheese.  I have this with either half a plate of salad or an eighth of a garlic flatbread.

Saturday has recently become Quorn burger night and homemade sweet potato fries.  Sunday dinner or tea I have a vegetarian roast, depending on if I'm working or not.  A couple of my weekly staples are Quorn chicken pieces in wraps with a load of salad and I've also recently got back into jacket potatoes with salad.  Other nights are potato, veg and vegetarian main of some sort.

The last few months while I've been paying attention to what I eat, when and why, I've noticed I'm making much better choices.  I'll look at MyFitness and see what my calories were like that day if it's getting to 8 pm and I'm feeling like I'm peckish and I will see how my allowance is. Sometimes I go over on workdays just because it's been a quiet day but I'm so used to being active and therefore eating a certain amount of calories.  Again, I don't beat myself up about this.

We all need to be kinder to ourselves and stop focusing on the numbers on the scales.  Drink a lot of water, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and include the odd treat at the weekend.
