I’ve been blogging this time around over the last couple of years predominantly sharing my mental health journey and I have been also sharing my journey as a new believer in recent posts. It’s great to have the desire to reach people with my stories but if I’m not doing things properly, am I actually reaching anyone?

One main reason I created this incarnation on my blog is because of the comments section. I’d like to create conversations with you, my readers and that will then help me know what content more than others I’m creating helps you most. But maybe I’m not making blog posts strong enough for my readers to want to, or need to comment.

I’ve really been feeling led to share more about my faith and how it helps with my mental health and if you follow me over on Instagram you will know that I’ve been working with Lady Boss Blogger who gave me the amazing opportunity to take their Grow Christian Blog course recently. Lady Boss blogger was created by Elaine Rau, she has created five courses to date to help people create the life they want by monetising their content on their blog and Instagram.

There was a section about email traffic and email subscribers that I know nothing about, but it is something that I have had in mind for a while now, I just had no idea how to start. This course helps to go through the process step by step, so look for those in the future.

There is so much more to blogging than I thought, especially in today’s society where there are so many blogs out there. What can I do to help set mine apart? What steps do I need to do to drive more traffic to my blog to reach more people?

The Grow Christian Blog course covers subjects like; how to balance your life with your blog so how to organise your time, avoiding overwhelm and how to stay motivated. All very important things when blogging is a side hustle. There are other very useful sections on common blogging mistakes, bad habits people get into, how to utilise Pinterest to drive more traffic to your blog and also how to monetise your blog.

One thing I often struggle with is being motivated and taking the time to sit down and type out a post for my blog. Life has been quite overwhelming for me this year coming off the year that shall not be named, so it’s been difficult to want to blog, and sometimes find something I want to write about.

The thing with having mental health issues is that when I’m overwhelmed and struggling mentally, I avoid things. I retreat into myself which means I’m more likely to watch endless YouTube videos or binge watch something instead of journaling which would be a lot more beneficial for me. Several of my blog posts were born from journaling sessions but if I’m too overwhelmed that I can’t focus, I distract myself instead.

I made 22 A4 pages of notes from this course - front and back… (IYKYK.) The initial takeaways for me were ways to improve my posts themselves, so what to include to increase SEO (search engine optimisation); how to make them rank higher in search engines so it’s nearer to the top of the suggested pages to read.

Another huge source of information for me was the section on Pinterest. I’ve made pins for blog posts in the past, but I admit that I haven’t made any recently, so I made a lot of notes on this and will be revisiting those sections in the course to improve my pins.

The lessons are geared towards the programmes that Elaine uses, such as WordPress, ConvertKit and others.  If, like me, you don’t use WordPress as a blog host, it’s a matter of Googling how to implement the suggestions on your site.  This will obviously take a bit longer to do, but you will understand your site much more at the end of it.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to take this course and gain all this amazing knowledge over the last few weeks. I'm really excited to see what happens as I implement more and more of the tips from it.

The Lady Boss Blogger Grow Christian course is priced at $197 but I have an affiliate link for you to get 20% off where I will get a commission when you use the code ‘carolsmentalhealth’ when you buy a course.
