Currently, I’m Loving … Future-Proofing Myself
A Different Form of Self-Care
Something I got from Hannah Marcotti a few years ago, is where you do self-care for yourself in the future.
Things like making your bed in the morning so it’s nice for you when it’s time to go to bed in the evening.
Tidying up the kitchen before you go to bed so it’s nice and clear for you when you wake up the next day so that involves putting all the clean pots away.
In my case, it includes not only preparing my breakfast of overnight oats for the morning but also my lunch for the next day alongside prepping my water bottles for work.
It's things that will make your time more effective in the future as well as your days hopefully running a bit smoother and therefore with a heck of a lot less stress.
Essentially, what can you do this morning to make our day better later and what can you do today to make your day better tomorrow?
It’s something that I’ve done for a while now although not always as well as I’d like. Sometimes I’m not the best at tidying the kitchen before bed or preparing my lunch and water bottles for work. And, I am the absolute worst at working out my evening meals for the week!!
It’s always more difficult for me at this time of year to meal plan what I’m going to eat on the majority of the days, especially on workdays. There are those nights where I have no idea what I’m having and it does fill me with a bit of stress. One thing that I do is I make a big pot of my vegetarian bolognese to freeze in portions for a quick, healthy and hearty meal, especially on a cold night after work.
Other nights I still have my familiar set things of pizza on a Friday night and a veggie burger on Saturday night. The wraps I have been having over the last few months while they are very tasty and quick, sometimes I want something more warming inside me.
So I’m starting to have jacket potatoes again with either some salad and grated cheese or baked beans and cheese. I often make pasta as well as that’s an easy leftover for work lunches because I always cook too much just for one portion.
I find that this form of self-care is one that I need to make more of an effort to do in the winter months compared to the summer ones.
Comment down below, is there anything you do differently during the winter months to make things easier for youeself?
